The Government of Jamaica is advising the public that above-normal temperatures are expected across Jamaica through August 29, 2026. The outlook shows warmer-than-normal conditions for the periods August 9–15, August 16–22, and August 23–29. As temperatures remain elevated, the public is encouraged to stay hydrated, limit prolonged exposure to the midday heat, and check on children, older persons and other vulnerable individuals.

The New Social Housing Programme is about giving vulnerable Jamaicans the opportunity to have a safe and secure place to call home. In Central Kingston, we are helping to renew the housing stock and improve the lives of families who need this support. We have now constructed 349 houses, with another 65 at various stages of construction. Recently, I visited the Kingston Central Police Division and was encouraged by the progress being made. Murders are down by 58% so far this year, while the police are also solving past murders and bringing justice to families who have lost loved ones. The Division is also working with young people through programmes focused on conflict resolution and positive life skills, while continuing the fight against gangs and increasing police presence in the town centre for the back-to-school period. During my visit to Denbigh, I was encouraged to learn that students from the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) are being prepared not only in agricultural production, but also in farm management, accounting, finance, marketing and the use of technology.
