Recently, I visited the Kingston Central Police Division and was encouraged by the progress being made.

Murders are down by 58% so far this year, while the police are also solving past murders and bringing justice to families who have lost loved ones.

The Division is also working with young people through programmes focused on conflict resolution and positive life skills, while continuing the fight against gangs and increasing police presence in the town centre for the back-to-school period.

I was especially pleased to see young police officers taking on leadership roles. Our young people need positive examples to look up to.

The JCF must continue to show that our police officers represent discipline, professionalism, dignity and service, not just authority through the uniform or the weapon they carry.
