We have seen our territory fragmented, our ports besieged, our capital in the hands of invaders. We have exhausted ourselves in internal wars, in pointless intrigues. Our history has thus familiarized us with tragedy. This encounter between beauty and brutality seeks its resolution in catarsis. Yet we refused to become a tragedy ourselves.
