Recently, I met with the Minister with Responsibility for Works, Hon. Robert Morgan and the National Works Agency to review the progress of road and infrastructure projects across Jamaica and to ensure that the work being done remains within the budget.

The works are progressing, and we are looking at securing the additional funding needed to support the projects already underway. I am especially mindful of the concerns being raised by Jamaicans about community and rural roads where conditions remain difficult.

Through the SPARK programme, we have already completed more than 100 roads, while also addressing drainage, water mains and other underground utilities that can affect road works.

I understand the frustration when a road project takes longer than expected. Some of the challenges are beneath the surface, particularly old or missing water and sewer lines, which require additional work before the road can be completed.

We will continue working with the resources available to improve roads across our communities, while keeping our national budget and fiscal targets in focus.
