For us, it starts with doing the right thing.

Pauline’s story is not unique. There are many Jamaicans who have suffered loss and damage, live with disabilities, or simply do not have the means to rebuild on their own.

That is why, under the New Social Housing Programme, we take the time to make sure the people we select genuinely need the help.

We don’t simply take someone’s word for it. We go into the community, speak with people, verify their circumstances and make sure the situation is as it was presented to us.

We also check the land, confirm ownership and make sure it is suitable for building. The person selected to construct the house must also meet the required standards, and the process must be transparent and competitive.

At the end of the day, this is about doing the work properly and giving each beneficiary a home that reflects their dignity.

That is the standard I want us to maintain as we continue to serve our people.
