Happy 64th Independence Day, Jamaica!

On behalf of the Government and people of Barbados, and on my own behalf, I extend warm wishes to all Jamaicans everywhere.

Jamaica has made an unmistakable contribution to Caribbean civilisation and the world. Your culture has travelled far beyond your shores without ever losing the spirit of home, reminding us of what Caribbean people can achieve when we remain confident in who we are.

For Barbados, this day is also an opportunity to celebrate the longstanding friendship between our countries and Jamaica’s journey over the past 64 years. As small island states, we share a determination to chart our own course, protect our identity and secure a better future for our people.

As your anthem says, “Justice, Truth be ours forever.” May those words continue to guide Jamaica in the years ahead.

Barbados celebrates with you today and wishes you continued progress and prosperity. Happy Independence Day, Jamaica, and may the Eternal Father continue to bless your land.
