Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to travel to New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly next week.

Pezeshkian is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Wednesday, September 23, where he’s expected to present the Islamic Republic’s stance on international developments and the US-Israeli war of aggression against the country.

On the sidelines of the gathering, the president is also expected to hold meetings and consultations with world leaders.

A high-ranking Iranian delegation is expected to accompany the president during the trip. The core delegation that received visas to attend includes Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

“Consistent with our host country obligations, the core delegation from the Iranian regime will be able to attend UN General Assembly High Level Week,” the State Department spokesman said on Thursday.

The US official added that only a scaled-down delegation will be permitted, and that they will confront tighter travel curbs “per our policy.”

Washington, however, has denied visas to members of the president’s media and public relations teams, potentially limiting Pezeshkian’s media coverage during the trip.

Pezeshkian’s visit to New York comes as the military aggression against Iran is now in its seventh month, with public and political pressure mounting on US President Donald Trump to find an end to the war.

Since it began in late February, the war has driven up global energy prices and expanded into neighboring countries as Iran’s Armed Forces launched retaliatory attacks on US bases and military assets in those countries.

Pezeshkian said earlier this week that Iran is ready to resolve differences with its neighbors through dialogue and mutual respect, warning that the United States and Israel are seeking to sow discord in the region to weaken its nations and plunder their resources.
