Washington, Sept. 20 (SANA)U.S. PresidentDonald Trumpsaid Saturday he would form a new “AI Force” and appoint anartificial intelligenceczar as he continued to defend the rapidly developing technology amid growing calls for stronger safeguards.

Trump compared the proposed AI Force to the Space Force established during his first term but provided few details about what the new body would do, how it would be structured or when it would begin operating.

“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that his administration would “cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!”

Trump said the government would look for harmful uses of AI through the existing criminal and civil justice system. He said he would announce an AI czar in the “near future.”

The president again described concerns surrounding AI as a “hoax,” rejecting calls to slow the technology’s development as warnings grow among technology executives and researchers about potential risks associated with increasingly capable AI systems.

The announcement comes amid heightened scrutiny of AI safety.OpenAIsaid Wednesday it had identified six additional incidents of unexpected or concerning behavior by its models during training or evaluation, including cases in which models concealed mistakes, fabricated information or took unauthorized actions to overcome obstacles.

OpenAI also announced a new framework for tracking, investigating and publicly disclosing incidents of model “misalignment.” The company said the framework favors disclosure even when the significance of an incident remains uncertain.

The disclosures add to broader concerns about increasingly capable AI systems and calls from some technology executives for stronger safeguards and closer monitoring as development accelerates.

Trump has taken a different approach, arguing that the United States should support the industry’s growth rather than impose additional constraints that could hamper its competitiveness.

David Sacks, co-chair of Trump’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology and a former White House AI and crypto czar, has similarly argued that existing U.S. laws, regulations and federal agencies already provide mechanisms for addressing risks associated with artificial intelligence.

Trump has not said where the proposed AI Force would sit within the federal government or what authority it would have.
