Tokyo, Sept. 20 (SANA)Japanese authorities warned Sunday thatTyphoonDujuan was approachingPacific coastalareas in eastern Japan, including Tokyo, raising concerns over possible flooding and landslides due to heavy rainfall.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said that as of 9:00 a.m. local time, the typhoon was moving northwestward over the sea south of Japan at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.

The storm had a central pressure of 970 hectopascals, with winds reaching 126 kilometers per hour near its center and maximum gusts of up to 180 kilometers per hour.

The typhoon is expected to shift northeastward on Monday and maintain its strength through Tuesday as it approaches the Izu Islands and Pacific coastal areas of eastern Japan, including the Kanto region.

Weather officials warned of possible landslides, strong winds and heavy rainfall before the typhoon’s arrival. They also cautioned about flooding risks in low-lying areas, rivers, roads and underground facilities.

Japanis among the countries frequently affected by tropical storms during the autumn typhoon season, which typically runs from August to October. Such storms can cause damage through flooding and landslides linked to rising river and sea levels.
