During the last few hours, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Indalecio Dangón Vaquero, toured the high plains in Meta and Vichada. The minister was not alone; he was accompanied by the Ministry of Transport, Invías, and the Minister of the Environment. They met with unions and producers in Puerto Gaitán, in the agro-industrial heart of the Orinoquía region, and made progress in the territory of Elbichada. They listened firsthand to those who produce the food of this country and confirmed something that Colombia can no longer postpone. The high plains, which were abandoned for decades, are the natural pantry of our country. The roadmap has four fronts and all four are being worked on simultaneously. One, the tracks. Without roads, there is no harvest worth having. The roads department presented the paving contracts underway and prioritized the strategic corridors of the high plains. Food cannot continue to be transported via a 500 km trail. Infrastructure is no longer just talk; it's becoming a key investment for Colombia in terms of production. Two, production. The emphasis is on where the region is already a powerhouse. Corn and soybeans, the supply chains that can replace imports and lower food prices.
