“I had a very positive and productive meeting with Prime Minister Andy Burnham at Number 10 North in Manchester this morning.

“We discussed a wide range of matters, including the strength of relations between our two countries, and how that is now being harnessed to deliver new benefits and opportunities across these islands through our strategic programme of cooperation –UK-Ireland 2030. The Prime Minister and I discussed several areas of mutual interest for prioritisation under the programme ahead of the next annual Summit, which I look forward to attending in the UK in 2027.

“We also had very good discussions on Northern Ireland matters, and both reaffirmed our commitment to implementing the agreed Joint Framework on Legacy, and to doing so as soon as possible. I welcomed the fact that the UK’s Northern Ireland Troubles Bill will be back before Parliament next month.

“We also spoke about the vital role of our two governments as co-guarantors of the Good Friday Agreement, and agreed that a spirit of partnership will remain at the heart of how we continue to work together for a more reconciled, prosperous Northern Ireland, including in the period ahead as we approach the 30th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.

“Our meeting addressed a number of important international issues, including the seriously concerning humanitarian situation in Gaza, and our joint commitment to support a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. We also discussed the EU-UK relationship, and our common aim of seeing a successful EU-UK Summit in the period ahead.

“I was delighted, together with the Prime Minister, to visit the Brian Boru Irish Centre in Wigan, where we were warmly welcomed by members of the Irish community.''
