President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, DAH, will represent the country at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where world leaders will gather to consider the major challenges confronting the international community.

President Burton will depart Dominica on Saturday, September 19, and is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Tuesday, September 22. She will return to the state on Thursday, September 24.

The General Debate will be held under the theme,“Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”The theme reflects the need for stronger international cooperation at a time when countries are confronting conflict, climate change, economic uncertainty, widening inequality and rapid technological transformation.

In her national statement, President Burton is expected to outline Dominica’s perspective on the urgent issues before the international community and reaffirm the country’s commitment to multilateralism, peace, sustainable development and climate action. The address will also highlight the need for the United Nations and the wider global community to translate international commitments into meaningful results for people.

Dominica continues to advocate for development financing that reflects the vulnerability of small states and greater support for climate adaptation and resilience.

Dominica’s delegation to UNGA 2026 includes First Gentleman Mr. Gilbert Burton; Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy, Honourable Dr. Vince Henderson; Dominica’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations H.E Philbert Aaron; Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, H.E Kelver Darroux; Sheldon Peter Anthony and other extended staff of the UN Mission.

Mrs. Josette Matthew will discharge the duties of Acting President during the absence of the President from the state.
