Raqqa, Sept. 17 (SANA)The Social Affairs and Labor Directorate in Raqqa province inaugurated an institute for children with hearing and visual disabilities on Wednesday, aimed at providing specialized education and rehabilitation and helping children integrate into schools.

The institute has capacity for 100 children with hearing and visual disabilities and a teaching staff of around 60 female teachers, providing students with specialized education and support.

Alaa al-Hussein, a member of Raqqa province’s Executive Office for social affairs and labor, told SANA that efforts in the coming period would focus on supporting the institute and providing its needs in coordination with relevant organizations and partners working in education and inclusion.

She said the aim is to create an appropriate learning environment that helps children develop their abilities and skills.

Institute Principal Samer al-Hassan said teaching would follow the Education Ministry’s curriculum, with delivery methods adapted to students’ individual needs and abilities.

Curricula for deaf students will be taught using sign language, while materials for blind students will be made available in Braille, he said, adding that the institute has the teaching staff needed to begin its work.

The opening is part of Social Affairs and Labor Ministry plans to support and empower persons with disabilities and develop an inclusive educational environment that promotes equal access to education and knowledge.FJ/HH
