Olabi: Syria is indispensable partner in ensuring security and stability of the region
New York, Sep.17 (SANA)Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations,Ibrahim Olabisaid that Syria will come to New York this year having seized the opportunity and matched words with actions, becoming an indispensable partner in ensuring security and stability in the region.
“Let us write a different chapter together, one defined by stability and development, not wars and attacks. We can take pride in having seized this opportunity and in history recording that we chose construction over destruction, cooperation over conflict, and prosperity over suffering,” Olabi said at asecurity councilsession on Thursday about the situation in Syria.
On the situation insouthern Syria, the Syrian diplomat affirmed that Israel is the biggest threat to security and stability of the entire region, not just to Syria.
“You all witnessed two weeks ago the illegal entry of Israeli occupation officials into Syria, a flagrant violation rejected not only by Syria, but also by 44 countries that chose to stand alongside Syria outside the Security Council Hall,” Olabi addressed representatives.
He went on to say that Israel “has encroached on our villages, forcibly disposed of our people and bombed our facilities, while we chose, in order to spare the region further suffering, to open the door to mediation.”
“We want to follow diplomatic solutions and a U.S.-sponsored security agreement, as we have demonstrated through actions, not words. However, this in no way means accepting the occupation or relinquishing the rights of our people,” Olabi stressed.
He added that the Arab region has long been present in holy scriptures and throughout the pages of history.
“Today, we all find ourselves before a golden opportunity for history to write about us, but how do we want history to record this era,” Olabi wondered.
