Trump hopes Iran war is nearing end, plans talks with Gulf leaders
Washington, Sept. 17 (SANA)U.S. PresidentDonald Trumpsaid he hoped the war with Iran was nearing an end as he prepared to meet Gulf leaders on the sidelines of theU.N. General Assemblyin New York next week.
The meeting, expected Tuesday, will bring together leaders or foreign ministers fromGulf Cooperation Councilcountries to discuss developments in the conflict and possible next steps, Axios reported, citing sources familiar with the plans.
The talks are expected to focus onU.S. proposalsfor a postwar strategy as Trump and his administration work on plans for the period after the fighting ends, according to Axios.
Trump reiterated that Iran wanted to reach an agreement, saying Washington had received that message directly from Tehran. TheWhite Househas not commented on the planned meeting.
TheU.S. State Departmenthas begun sending initial invitations to Gulf countries, Axios reported. One source told the outlet that the meeting could be expanded to include leaders from other Arab and Muslim countries.
