Syria opens Chess Olympiad with wins over Niger and Guinea in Uzbekistan

Samarkand, Sept. 17 (SANA)Syria opened its campaign at the 46th FIDEChess Olympiadin Samarkand, Uzbekistan, with 4-0 victories over Niger in the Open section and Guinea in the Women’s section on Wednesday.

Syrian Arab Chess Federation President Ali Abbas told SANA that the Syrian Men team defeatedNiger4-0, while the Women’s team recorded the same score against Guinea.

Syria’s Men team featured Mazen Fandi, Rudy Bakr, Talal al-Zaeem and Bashir Aiti. The Women’s team comprised Rola Mahmoud, Nibal al-Jalda, Doha Farha and Naya Boufaroud.

The 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad is being held in Samarkand from Sept. 15 to 27, with the Open and Women’s competitions played over 11 rounds under the Swiss system.
