Damascus, Sept. 16 (SANA)Syria and Egypt held their second government meeting in Damascus on Wednesday, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in economic, trade, investment, energy and other priority sectors.

The meeting was chaired bySyrian Foreign and Expatriates MinistryAdviser Mohammad al-Jafal and Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad Ambassador Ihab Fahmy, with the participation of representatives from ministries, institutions and bodies concerned with economy, trade, investment, oil, gas, electricity and free zones in both countries.

The two sides reviewed the outcomes of the first government meeting held in Cairo on April 15, 2026, and the agreements reached on areas of cooperation in priority sectors.

During the Damascus meeting, the two sides agreed on proposed implementation mechanisms, including considering the establishment of relevant technical working groups in the near future.

They also welcomed the completion of the formation of the Syrian-Egyptian Joint Business Council and the holding of its first session on the sidelines of the second government meeting.

The two sides stressed the importance of organizing a joint business forum to explore trade and investment opportunities and advance economic cooperation between Syria andEgyptin priority sectors.FJ/HH
