Vienna, Sept. 16 (SANA)Syrian Atomic EnergyCommission and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Wednesday signed a Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2026–2031 at the Agency’s headquarters in Austrian capital, Vienna.

The CPF was signed on behalf of the Syrian side by Chairman ofSyria‘s Atomic Energy Commission,Mudar al-Okla, and on behalf of IAEA by Deputy Director General and Head of Technical Cooperation Department, Hua Liu.

Key framework for medium-term planning

The Commission’s media office told SANA that the CPF constitutes the main reference framework for medium-term planning of technical and developmental cooperation between Syria and IAEA. It identifies national priority areas to which technical cooperation resources and nuclear technology transfer will be directed to support national development goals, continuing Syria’s partnership with the Agency since it became a member state in 1963.

The CPF identifies seven priority areas over the next six years: Nuclear and radiation safety; health and nutrition; food and agriculture; energy planning; nuclear knowledge management; industrial applications; water and environment.

The agreement also seeks to strengthen the peaceful applications of nuclear and radiological technologies in Syria and utilize them in support of service, development and research sectors.

Syria, represented by Syrian Atomic Energy Commission, participated alongside delegations from 182 countries in the 70th session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, which kicked off on Monday and continues till September 18.
