New York, Sept. 16 (SANA)Saudi ArabiaandPakistanwarned theUN Security Councilthat escalatingHouthi attacksthreatened shipping through the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb, posing risks to global trade and supply chains.Saudi Arabia’s UN Ambassador Abdulaziz Al-Wasil told a Security Council meeting on Yemen on Tuesday that protecting maritime routes and freedom of navigation was a shared international responsibility requiring adherence to international law and relevant UN resolutions.Al-Wasil condemned attacks on Saudi Arabia, commercial vessels and maritime routes, and said the Kingdom had the right to protect its security and sovereignty under the UN Charter and international law.Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad reaffirmed Islamabad’s support for Saudi Arabia’s right to defend its territory and protect its security and citizens, warning that continued Houthi attacks posed a serious threat to regional security.Al-Wasil said Saudi Arabia had launched a multinational maritime defense coalition to strengthen security in the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb and Gulf of Aden.
