Occupied Jerusalem, Sept. 16 (SANA)Twenty Palestinians, including five children, were killed and more than 100 were reported missing after a residential building damaged by earlier Israeli bombardment collapsed inGazaCity on Wednesday, Palestinian rescue crews said.

Palestinian news agency WAFA cited rescue crews as saying the building had been sheltering displaced people and that 25 others were injured.

Search teams continued to look for people trapped beneath the rubble, but rescuers said a severe shortage of heavy equipment and specialized machinery was hampering operations.

Rescue crews also warned that more than 2,000 damaged buildings across the Gaza Strip were at risk of collapse while continuing to shelter large numbers of displaced Palestinians.

Elsewhere in Gaza, a Palestinian fisherman was killed when Israeli naval forces opened fire on him off the coast of Deir al-Balah, bringing Wednesday’s reported death toll in the Strip to 21.

In the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces detained 22 Palestinians in raids across several areas. Forces also demolished a pastoral community housing more than 20 Palestinians in Deir Ballut, west of Salfit, and a house in Yatta, south of Hebron. Israeli settlers burned a dwelling and an agricultural room and sprayed racist graffiti on Palestinian homes in al-Tuwani village.

Dozens of Israeli settlers also entered Al-Aqsa Mosque compound under the protection of Israeli forces, while the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron was closed to Palestinian worshippers until Thursday evening.

Hebron Awqaf Director Amjad Karja condemned the closure, saying it violated Muslims’ right to access their place of worship.
