Minister Calleary Encourages People to Check Eligibility for Household Benefits Package

The Household Benefits Package (HBP) provides financial support towards the cost of electricity or gas bills. It also includes entitlement to a fully funded Television Licence.

Currently, more than 550,000 households receive the Households Benefits Package.Only one Household Benefits Package is payable per household, and the recipient must reside full-time in Ireland.

A person aged 70 and over can receive the HBP while not receiving the state pension and the package is not means tested.

People under 70 can also get the HBP, but additional rules apply. Further details on the eligibility criteria are available atwww.gov.ie/hbp

Applications for Household Benefits Package can be made online using MyWelfare.ie for those with a MyGovID account or by completing the Household Benefits Package application form and submitting it by post.

Household Benefits Package is paid into your bank account or post office on the first Tuesday of every month.

The Department will shortly be launching a multimedia advertising campaign to raise awareness on eligibility and how to apply for the Household Benefits Package.

Speaking at The National Ploughing Championships today, Minister Calleary said:

“The Household Benefits Package provides meaningful support and can help with finances, particularly through the winter months. I want to ensure that everyone who may be entitled to this support is aware of the scheme and understands how to apply, soI’d encourage anyone who wishes to check their eligibility to the Household Benefits Package to speak to the Department of Social Protection team at the National Ploughing Championship or to contact 0818 200 400 and select the Household Benefits Package option.”
