The anniversary conference, running until September 18, will be attended by IAEA member states, representatives of international organizations, and experts.
The event will review the results of the Agency’s activities and set priorities for the future in nuclear energy, security, safeguards, and humanitarian programs.
A delegation from Uzbekistan is attending the conference. Azim Akhmedkhodjayev, the Director of the Uzatom Agency and head of the Uzbekistan delegation, shared updates on Uzbekistan’s efforts in collaboration with the IAEA. He discussed developments in nuclear infrastructure, advancements in nuclear medicine, the safe operation of research reactors, and efforts to enhance educational and laboratory facilities.
It was underlined that Uzbekistan was the first in the region to begin implementing a nuclear power plant project.
According to the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety, the Uzbekistan delegation will meet with the IAEA leadership and with foreign colleagues. The discussions will focus on ensuring radiation and nuclear safety, improving regulatory and supervisory mechanisms in nuclear energy, and sharing international experience and expanding practical cooperation in this field.
The event promotes cooperation among countries in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, ensures nuclear and radiation safety, strengthens international safeguards, and introduces best practices and technologies in this field.
