Foreign Ministry, Syrian Society in UK discuss enhancing leveraging expertise

Damascus, Sept. 16 (SANA)TheForeign Ministryheld talks with a delegation from the Syrian Society inBritainon Tuesday on strengthening ties with Syrians abroad and drawing on expertise to support reconstruction and development inSyria.

Nahla Othman, director of the ministry’s Expatriates and Refugees Department, met the delegation in Damascus to discuss ways to establish stronger links between Syrians at home and abroad.

The two sides stressed the importance of creating effective communication channels to facilitate the exchange of expertise. They agreed to develop a mechanism for continued coordination, launch joint initiatives and prepare practical programs to attract Syrian professionals abroad and involve them in development projects inside the country.

The meeting also addressed challenges facing Syrians sent abroad on official scholarships and the need to develop practical solutions that safeguard their rights and facilitate their work.

The two sides agreed to establish a joint working group to follow up on the understandings reached and hold regular meetings to assess progress.

The Syrian Society in Britain was established in 1984 and is based in London. It works to help Syrians in the United Kingdom maintain their cultural heritage, exchange expertise and provide a community platform connecting them with their roots in Syria.
