Minister of State with responsibility for Forestry, Farm Safety and Horticulture, Niall Collins TD, has appointed Daniel Sheils as Non-Executive Director to the Board of Coillte. The Minister has agreed this appointment in consultation with Jack Chambers, Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation.

Welcoming the new appointee, Minister Collins commented:

“I am pleased to appoint Daniel Sheils to the Board of Coillte, a highly accomplished professional who brings a wealth of experience and skills to the board. I am confident that his appointment will further enhance the good governance record of the Coillte Board, in particular regarding his expertise and long experience in public service transformation.”

Daniel Sheils has been appointed for a five-year period effective from 9 September 2026, following an open State Boards recruitment process.Welcoming the appointment, the Chairperson of Coillte, Vivienne Jupp, said:

“On behalf of the Board, I am delighted to welcome Daniel Sheils as a new member of the Coillte Board. Daniel brings significant experience and expertise in technology, leadership and public service transformation which will add strength to the oversight role of the Board.”

“As our state forestry company responsible for managing 440,000 hectares of primarily forested lands, Coillte is instrumental in the commercial production of Irish home-grown timber but also has an important role in contributing to the delivery of our national climate targets. Timber is a natural and renewable product and has a role in storing carbon and removing carbon from the atmosphere. This in addition with Coillte’s involvement in onshore energy generation makes a direct contribution to our ambitious targets. I would also like to commend Coillte for its open forest policy and for providing important recreational spaces to our communities. I wish the new appointee and the entire board well in its endeavours.”

Daniel SheilsDaniel Sheils has worked in various capacities as a Managing Director in Accenture for over 20 years, most recently leading Accenture’s Public Service Industry in EMEA since 2022. He is a Chartered Director accredited by the UK Institute of Directors and one of six Directors of Accenture Ireland Ltd, providing board-level leadership within a major commercial organisation of more than 6,000 employees.
