Sixteen Families Receive New Climate-Resilient Homes in Woodford Hill

Sixteen families in Woodford Hill received newly constructed residences at Small Farm during an official handover ceremony on Monday, September 14 as part of the Government’s ongoing housing programme.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Minister for Housing and Urban Development Melissa Poponne-Skerrit described the handover as the beginning of a safe, secure and resilient chapter for the families and their children.

“You are not just receiving a house; you have an asset that you can pass on to your children,” she said.

The Housing Minister encouraged the new homeowners to care for their properties, respect their neighbours and contribute to maintaining a peaceful, safe and clean community.

She also disclosed that the Government is exploring opportunities to expand the Small Farm development and provide additional housing for residents of Woodford Hill. Possible plans include constructing smaller units in available spaces and working with surrounding landowners to establish a more affordable housing programme.

Minister Poponne-Skerrit said the Government’s investments in housing form part of a wider development vision for Woodford Hill, Wesley and the Northeast, particularly as construction advances on the international airport.

The Physical Planning Division is expected to complete the Northeast Development Plan in the coming months. The plan will guide the orderly development of housing, agriculture, tourism, recreation, commerce and industry throughout the area.

The Minister thanked Prime Minister Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit for his leadership and continued commitment to improving the living conditions of vulnerable families. She also acknowledged the Ministry of Housing, the project management team and the local contractors who worked on the development.

“To our 16 recipients, I say congratulations and welcome home,” Minister Poponne-Skerrit stated. “May this home be the beginning of a safe, secure and resilient new chapter for you and your children.”
