Washington, Sept. 15 (SANA)US PresidentDonald Trumphas dismissed concerns overartificial intelligencesafety as a “hoax” as Democrats and some Republicans inCongresspush for stronger safeguards and oversight of the technology.

Trump rejected calls for additional AI “guardrails” in social media posts, saying that the only guardrails needed were provided by a “strong and smart” president.

He also warned that slowing AI development could benefit China, saying: “Whoever wins AI, wins.”

The comments came amid growing debate among lawmakers, researchers and technology executives over how to address potential risks linked to artificial intelligence while maintaining technological competitiveness.

Anthropicco-founder Jack Clark said a third-party-verified “kill switch” for AI systems could eventually be needed, while Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called for slower development and closer monitoring of the technology.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and xAI CEO Elon Musk have also supported greater oversight and independent monitoring of AI development.

Former President Barack Obama said voluntary standards by technology companies would not be sufficient and called for government action to address AI-related concerns.

UK Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said governments should not be complacent about AI risks but warned against exaggerating them, noting the technology’s potential benefits in public services, healthcare and the economy.
