The multilateral fund for the implementation of the Montreal protocol has highlighted Bahin's experience as an international model after the kingdom achieved a 74% reduction in hydrochloral fluorocarbon consumption from the 2025 baseline exceeding its target. The national framework includes banning the direct release of refrigerants requiring the recovery, recycling and reclamation and monitoring large cooling and air conditioning systems. Bahrain was also the first country in the region to ban non-refillable refrigerant cylinders and establish a national reclamation center and four filling centers. The system now includes around 1,100 licensed technicians and 3,000 licensed companies and workshops. With the third and final phase of the phase out plan underway, Bahrain is strengthening digital monitoring with a planned ban on hydrochloroarbon imports by 2030, reinforcing its environmental commitments and efforts to protect the ozone layer.
