Chile is its territory, [music] is its people and its culture. They are our customs, our traditions, our history and our local symbols. It is our Chilean identity that is expressed in the tirana and the nutino dances, in the cueca, [music] the threshing and the peasant life of the central zone, in the loom and the silversmithing of the Mapuche, in the mingas and in the curanto of Chilué, in the southern traditions [music] in Patagonia and in the Moais of Rapanui. Different stories and customs [music] that together form one living culture and one nation. That's all Chile. In September, after the harsh winter, spring arrives. [music] The trees bloom again, the afternoons lengthen and our streets, houses and squares are filled [music] with brand new flags. The cueca is heard, our folklore is experienced, the fondas and ramadas are set up, barbecues and empanadas are prepared , families gather to witness the military parade. These are days to celebrate our history, customs, and identity as a country. Above all, these are days to celebrate the joy of belonging to the same homeland, a homeland that is reflected in each [music] each person who from their place contributes to building a better Chile and keeping our culture and traditions [music] alive. Chile is in the fisherman who sets out to sea before dawn, in the farmer who works the land, in the miner who descends into the heart of the mountain, in the teacher who opens the world of knowledge to students, in the entrepreneur who gets up after a difficulty, in the medical teams who care for the sick in exhausting shifts, in the soldiers who guard our borders, in the police officers who protect our streets, in the firefighters who respond to an emergency. That is the homeland we celebrate today [music], a homeland built with hard work, sacrifice and perseverance. A nation that has faced earthquakes, catastrophes and difficult times, but has always found the strength to get back on its feet. History not only allows us to know the past, it also gives us lessons from the testimony of those who have built Chile. The men and women of the independence movement sometimes had profound differences and went through difficult times. They were all united by the same certainty that Chile was the most important cause they could serve. Chile is much bigger than any of our problems and challenges. That same conviction is what we need today, dear compatriots; after the storm the sun always comes out, and in Chile, which has weathered various storms, the sun will rise again. These national holidays should also be a celebration of hope. Chile begins a new stage. We know that no true transformation happens overnight. We know that difficulties still exist and that there is much to be done. Our country can and will recover peace, trust and development. And that task does not fall solely to the government.
