Taoiseach Micheál Martin will attend the National Ploughing Championships in Screggan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly today. During his visit, he will meet with exhibitors and members of the public, including at the Government of Ireland Village, where almost 100 exhibitors are showcasing Government services, supports and initiatives under the theme ‘Your Government, Your Community’.
Speaking today, the Taoiseach said:
“The Ploughing is a unique part of the Irish calendar. It brings together people from every corner of the country and provides a great opportunity to listen to what matters to farmers, rural communities, families and businesses.
“It is also a reminder of the enormous contribution made by our farming and rural communities to Ireland - from food production and enterprise to innovation and environmental stewardship.
“That sense of connection is also at the heart of the Government of Ireland Village – a place where the public service can engage directly with people, show them how best to access information, talk to them about delivering public services and help them understand what supports are available. I’m looking forward to meeting the people working across the Village and hearing directly from visitors about the issues that are important to them.”
The Government of Ireland Village includes marquees focused on climate action, health, housing, road safety, business supports, culture and creativity, community supports, further education, and recruitment.
