President El-Sisi’s Speech at Open Session of the 18th BRICS Summit 2026

Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India. Your excellencies, heads of state and government, and heads and representatives of BRICS partner countries. Distinguished guests, Egypt highly appreciates the efforts of the Republic of India to enhance cooperation amongst BRICS countries and their partners, and advance the priorities during its BRICS presidency. This session represents an important opportunity to exchange views amongst BRICS countries and partner countries on ways to address current challenges, capitalize on opportunities, and strengthen cooperation in order to achieve more inclusive and sustainable development. Ladies and gentlemen, the rapid transformations and challenges facing the global economy underscore the importance of building more resilient economies by diversifying sources of growth, strengthening supply chains, investing in people and technology, and broadening in the horizons of cooperation among countries of the global south. In this regard, Egypt attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation in the fields of innovation and artificial intelligence, as well as technology transfer and localization in a way that enables our countries to benefit more from technological transformations and enhance the role of young people in the economy of the future. Distinguished guests, sustainability has acquired a particular importance in light of the challenges related to energy and food security, water resources, and climate change. From this perspective, Egypt believes in the importance of expanding cooperation in clean and renewable energy, improving resource efficiency, and facilitating developing countries' access to the financing and technology required to transition towards more sustainable economies, also taking into account the differences in national circumstances and priorities. In this context, Egypt hosted this year the Egypt International Energy Conference and the exhibition Egypt 2026, which provided an important platform for strengthening partnerships and investments changing expertise in the fields of energy, innovation, and related technologies. Egypt also attaches particular importance to the sustainability of infrastructure, transportation networks, and logistics. Uh over the recent years, uh Egypt has significantly expanded the development of its ports, connectivity corridors, transportation networks to enhance uh the efficiency of trade flows, uh support the green transition in maritime transport, and strengthen regional connectivity. The Suez Canal lies at the heart of this system as one of the world's most important corridors for international trade. This, of course, places on Egypt an important role in supporting stability of supply chains and enhancing efficiency of global trade. Ladies and gentlemen, economic resilience cannot be separated from our ability to ensure food and energy security, maintain smooth flow of trade and investment, and address, of course, disruptions to supply chains. Therefore, we believe it is important to continue working to increase trade and investment among BRICS countries and their partners, and encourage joint projects in a way that strengthens the economic interconnectedness and reduces external shocks. We also attach great importance to strengthening the role of development finance institutions, among them the New Development Bank, in providing a financing required for infrastructure projects and development efforts while expanding developing countries' access to concessional financing. Heads of state and government, to distinguished guests, the success of our partnership does not depend solely on agreeing on priorities. It requires translating these priorities into tangible projects, investment, and partnerships. Egypt reaffirms its readiness to continue working with BRICS members and partner countries to leverage capabilities and strategic location to strengthen cooperation in the fields of energy, food, transportation and logistics, technology, and investment to contribute to build a more interconnected and resilient partnership. Through the diversity of its members and partners, BRICS has a genuine opportunity to build a practical model for cooperation among countries of the global South, one based on resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability to translate these principles into tangible programs and projects that benefit all of our peoples. Thank you.
