Damascus, Sept. 13 (SANA)Haneen Choir from thecoastal city of Safitaperformed at Syrian Art Week in Damascus on Saturday, joiningartists and cultural groupsfrom across the country in an event aimed at showcasing Syria’s diverse creative scene.

The choir performed a selection of songs featuring choral arrangements of works byFairuz, Mayada Bseliss, Ziad Rahbani and Joseph Sakr, drawing a warm response from the audience.

Layal Maasrani, a member ofHaneen Choir, told SANA that participating in the event gave the group an opportunity to contribute to Syria’s evolving cultural and artistic landscape.

“Cultureis an essential part of building the new Syria,” Maasrani said, adding that the choir’s message centers on the belief that art can play a role in the country’s rebuilding.

She said the group had adapted a diverse selection of songs forchoral performanceand expressed hope that Syrians would combine their efforts in the next phase.

Haneen’s appearance is part of a widerSyrian Art Weekprogram featuring musicians, artists and cultural groups from different regions and disciplines.

The event runs through Sept. 18, with a series of musical performances and other artistic and cultural activities.
