Cairo, Sept. 13 (SANA)A Syrian trade union delegation is taking part in the 52ndArab Labour Conferencein Cairo, joining representatives from 21 Arab countries for talks on labour markets, workers’ rights and economic challenges.

The delegation from Syria’s General Federation of Trade Unions is led by federation President Abdul Alim al-Bakour.

The conference, which opened Sunday and runs through Sept. 20, is organized by the Arab Labour Organization, an affiliate of the Arab League.

Discussions are focused on strengthening cooperation among governments, employers and workers, addressing economic and social challenges, improving working conditions and advancing sustainable development.

Sanaa Waked, the federation’s secretary for culture and media, said Syria’s participation was aimed at expanding cooperation on labour and trade union issues and sharing expertise with Arab organizations.

She said the conference offered an opportunity to coordinate Arab positions, promote social dialogue and strengthen the representation of workers and their concerns at regional and international forums.

Around 530 representatives of governments, employers and workers are attending, along with officials from Arab, regional and international organizations, ambassadors and public figures involved in labour and development.

The annual conference serves as the Arab region’s main tripartite labour forum, addressing employment policies and legislation, vocational training and the protection of workers’ rights amid economic and technological change.
