Manama, Sept. 11 (SANA)Bahrain welcomed a decision by the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors to end consideration of a safeguards-related non-compliance issue involving Syria, joining a growing number of Arab and international countries backing the move.

Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry described the decision as a positive development reflecting progress in Syria’s cooperation with international and regional organizations in accordance withinternational law.

In a statement, the ministry reaffirmed Bahrain’s support forSyria, its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, as well as its national and constitutional institutions. It said the kingdom supports efforts to meet the Syrian people’s aspirations for security, stability and prosperity and restore the country’s role in the Arab region and internationally.

Bahrainalso praised the efforts of the Arab Group on the IAEA Board of Governors, chaired by Saudi Arabia, as well as Jordan, Egypt and Morocco, for their role in submitting the draft resolution.

The ministry said the resolution’s adoption by consensus reflected broad support among IAEA member states for the positive developments in the Syrian file.

TheIAEABoard of Governors adopted the decision on Wednesday, removing the Syria-related “non-compliance” item from its agenda, a move that has drawn widespread Arab and international support.
