Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi Meets a Leadership Delegation from the Yazidi Cause Alliance ••••• Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi announced that Sinjar resistance factions will begin handing over their weapons to the state and that Mount Sinjar will be under the full authority of the federal government and its security and administrative institutions. He affirmed that confining arms exclusively to state authority and unifying security decision-making are fundamental to protecting the people of the district, consolidating its stability, and safeguarding its future. This came during the Prime Minister’s meeting today, Friday, with a leadership delegation from the Yazidi Cause Alliance, the head of its parliamentary bloc, MP Murad Ismael, and the leadership of the Sinjar Resistance Units. The meeting addressed the overall situation in Sinjar District and issues related to its stability, reconstruction, and the future of its people. The Prime Minister affirmed that the decision to hand over weapons comes within the framework of building a state of institutions, safeguarding the unity of national decision-making, and ending the existence of multiple centers of security decision-making. He stressed that the state will safeguard the rights of members of the Sinjar Resistance Units and the Women’s Units and honor their sacrifices, by regularizing their status and integrating those who are eligible into Iraqi security institutions in accordance with legal and official frameworks. The meeting also addressed service conditions in the district, its needs for infrastructure and reconstruction projects, compensation for those affected, and the creation of appropriate conditions for the return of displaced persons to their areas. It also addressed a number of administrative issues related to the administration of the district, its institutions and government departments, as well as the management of the Sinjar Reconstruction Fund. The Prime Minister affirmed that Yazidis represent an integral and important part of Iraq’s diverse social fabric and that this diversity constitutes a source of strength for Iraq and a national and humanitarian asset. He referred to the crimes and injustices inflicted upon members of the Yazidi community by terrorist gangs, affirming that the government will continue its efforts to ensure justice for them, guarantee their rights, return them to their areas, and address the consequences of years of terrorism and displacement. He stressed that the state will not allow Sinjar to become an arena for conflicts, nor will it accept the presence of any security or military authority outside the framework of the state. The Prime Minister directed that members of the Yazidi community be included in the One Million Residential Land Plots Project and that the necessary conditions be created for the full return of displaced persons to their areas. He also directed that the reconstruction of Sinjar District be followed up and its service requirements provided, in a manner that contributes to enabling residents to remain in their areas and strengthening social and economic stability. The Prime Minister also directed the formation of a high-level committee tasked with preparing a comprehensive and thorough study of the security and service conditions in Sinjar District, identifying its needs and the requirements of its people, and developing appropriate solutions. The committee will also follow up on the integration of Sinjar protection personnel into official security and service institutions and the regularization of their legal status, in a manner that strengthens state authority and supports stability in the district.
