Human remains recovered from abandoned well near Damascus

Damascus Countryside, Sept. 11 (SANA)Syria’s National Commission for Missing Persons said Friday that its teams recovered human remains from an abandoned well in Qatana, Damascus Countryside, after receiving a report about the site.

The remains were discovered during cleaning work at a location previously used as a military barracks by forces of the ousted regime, the commission said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

Specialized teams documented, collected and preserved the remains in accordance with established procedures to protect evidence and preserve the dignity of the victims, the commission said. Technical and legal procedures are continuing as part of efforts to determine the fate of missing persons and provide answers to their families.

Syrian authorities have reported finding mass graves in several parts of the country in recent months containing the remains of hundreds of people they say were killed as a result of abuses by the ousted regime and allied militias during the years of the Syrian revolution.
