Baghdad, Sept. 11 (SANA)Iraq and Kyrgyzstan are seeking to ease the movement of Kyrgyz trucks through Iraqi territory to Gulf states as the two countries look to expand transport links and regional trade,Iraq’s Transport Ministrysaid Friday.Officials from the two countries discussed streamlining border, customs and technical procedures to cut transit times and costs, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported, citing a ministry statement.The talks, held by video conference, also focused on a proposed agreement covering both freight and passenger transport.Abbas Khazal Hassan, an official at Iraq’s General Company for Land Transport, said a comprehensive agreement would provide a broader framework for bilateral transport and transit operations.Baghdad sees the proposed route as part of efforts to strengthen Iraq’s role as a trade corridor linkingCentral AsiawithGulf markets.The Kyrgyz side welcomed the proposal and agreed to provide Baghdad with a draft transport agreement for review ahead of further talks and possible signing, the ministry said.
