Homs, Sept. 10 (SANA)Anti-narcoticsauthorities inHomsarrested two people involved in drug trafficking and distribution and seized 50,000Captagonpills in their possession.

The Anti-Narcotics Department said via its Telegram channel on Wednesday that the two, identified by their initials as M.Q. and A.K., were arrested in a security operation after their involvement in drug trafficking and distribution was established.

They will be referred to the competent judiciary for the necessary legal proceedings, the department said.

In a separate operation on Wednesday, Internal Security forces found quantities of narcotics inside a suspicious vehicle in Homs’ al-Waer neighborhood after receiving a report from residents.

Mohammad al-Khaled, media official for the Internal Security Command in Homs, told SANA that security patrols and specialized engineering units inspected the vehicle and found no explosives before discovering narcotics inside.

The Anti-Narcotics Department took over the case and arrested a suspect riding a motorcycle near the scene, while authorities continued to pursue another person who fled the area, al-Khaled said.

The operations follow other major drug seizures in Homs this year. On July 17, the Anti-Narcotics Department thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of narcotics outside the country, seizing 1.3 million Captagon pills and arresting the person responsible for the shipment.

On April 5, anti-narcotics authorities also foiled an attempt to transport a large shipment of Captagon pills along the Shinshar road in Homs countryside in an operation targeting a drug trafficking and distribution network.
