EGA acquires 80% stake in Italy’s Eco Green to expand aluminium recycling
Abu Dhabi, Sept. 10 (SANA)Emirates GlobalAluminium(EGA), the world’s largest producer of premium aluminium, announced Thursday that it has completed the acquisition of an 80% stake inItalian aluminiumrecycling companyEco Green.
The acquisition marks a strategic step in EGA’s efforts to expand its aluminium recycling business globally and support the transition toward a circular economy and more sustainable industrial future in Europe.
EGA CEO Abdulnasser Bin Kalban said the acquisition strengthens the company’s global aluminium recycling operations, adding that Eco Green brings specialized expertise and deep knowledge of the European aluminium scrap market, supporting EGA’s growth plans in recycling across the continent.
Eco Green CEO Luca Scapini said the company had developed over more than three decades into one of Italy’s leading aluminium recycling companies. He said joining EGA would open broader growth opportunities for Eco Green as a key part of EGA’s expanding aluminium recycling network in Europe.
Founded in 1993, Eco Green specializes in aluminium scrap, sorting and casting, as well as dross processing. It processes and distributes 70,000 tons annually, serving more than 60 clients across Europe and working with a network of more than 350 aluminium scrap suppliers.
Following the acquisition, EGA’s recycled aluminium production capacity now exceeds 400,000 tons annually across the UAE, the United States, Germany and Italy, with more than 200,000 tons of additional capacity currently under development.
EGA is a major supplier of primary aluminium to Europe, selling around 600,000 tons of primary aluminium annually to European industries.In 2024, EGA acquired Germany’s Leichtmetall and U.S.-based Spectro Alloys Recycling.
