Damascus launches community drive to support public hospitals

Damascus, Sept. 10 (SANA)A community initiative was launched in Damascus on Thursday to help public hospitals secure medical equipment and rehabilitate facilities as healthcare providers face needs that exceed available resources. The initiative, titled “Let Us Be a Balm, Damascus,” was launched during a press conference at Ibn al-Nafis Medical Complex under the sponsorship of the Damascus Health Directorate and several community partners. The campaign seeks to mobilize support from community organizations, donors and other partners to provide hospitals with needed medical equipment and supplies, rehabilitate facilities and improve healthcare services.

Hospital needs outpace available resources

Damascus Health Directorate Director Wael Daghmash said years of continuous operation, aging and deteriorating medical equipment, and the ongoing need for maintenance and rehabilitation have left government hospitals with needs that exceed available resources. He said addressing those challenges requires broader cooperation between public institutions and the community to help rehabilitate and equip healthcare facilities.“Every medical device means a more accurate diagnosis, every resuscitation device means saving a patient’s life, and every room that is renovated provides a better environment for treatment,” Daghmash said.He added that contributions of any size could be turned into services reaching patients in need.

The campaign calls on community institutions, donors and partners to help provide hospitals with medical equipment and contribute to rehabilitation efforts, with the aim of strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving services for patients.
