Capitals, Sept. 9 (SANA)Saudi Arabia,Jordan, theUnited KingdomandDenmarkon Wednesday welcomed a decision by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors to remove theSyria-related “noncompliance” item from its agenda, citing positive developments in the file and Syria’s cooperation with the agency.

In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the consensus reached by the IAEA Board of Governors on the decision submitted by Saudi Arabia, as chair of the Arab Group in Vienna, together with Jordan, Egypt and Morocco. The ministry said the decision reflects support for the positive developments concerning Syria’s nuclear file.

Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its support for Syria and for efforts and steps aimed at strengthening its security, stability and sovereignty and supporting its national institutions, contributing to the Syrian people’s aspirations for a future of security, stability and prosperity.

Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates also welcomed the Board of Governors’ adoption of the decision concerning Syria, which ended the board’s consideration of the implementation of the safeguards agreement in Syria in light of the country’s full cooperation with the IAEA.

The United Kingdom’s Special Envoy for Syria, Barrie Peach, welcomed the decision, saying it reflects Syria’s cooperation on outstanding nuclear-related issues dating back to the Assad era. He said the UK welcomed the step, which would contribute to strengthening transparency, international engagement and nuclear nonproliferation.

Denmark likewise welcomed the IAEA Board’s decision to remove the Syria-related noncompliance item from its agenda, describing it as an important step toward strengthening the global nuclear nonproliferation regime.

Danish Ambassador to International Organizations in Vienna Christian Grønbech-Jensen said the decision represented an important milestone and recognized Syria’s cooperation with the IAEA and its director general.

He added that the Nordic-Baltic countries — Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden — welcomed the development and looked forward to continued information exchanges with the IAEA, describing the decision as important progress toward strengthening the global nonproliferation regime.
