Google Announces €13 Billion Investment in Finland’s Digital Infrastructure
Helsinki, Sept. 09 (SANA)Google announced on Wednesday that it will invest €13 billion in Finland over the next two years in digital infrastructure projects, including data centers dedicated to operatingartificial intelligence models.In a statement published on its Google Cloud Press Corner website, the company said the investment is the largest it has made in Europe, reflecting Finland’s leading role in the responsible development ofAI-related infrastructure.The investments will also include clean energy projects and dedicated funds for nature and local communities to support biodiversity, education, scientific research and workforce development.The projects include the construction of data centers and infrastructure to support a number of Google services, including itsGeminiartificial intelligence application.Construction of the new projects is expected to begin between 2027 and 2028. Google estimates that the investments will contribute around €3.6 billion annually to Finland’s gross domestic product and support more than 37,000 jobs across the country.Finland has been a longstanding partner of Google in Europe, with the company’s investment presence in the country dating back to 2009, when it acquired a former paper mill in the city of Hamina and transformed it into one of its most advanced andenvironmentally friendly data centers.
