Damascus, Sep. 8 (SANA)Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raedal-Salehdiscussed Tuesday with a European Union delegation headed byHans Das, Deputy Director-General of the European Civil Protection Directorate-General, ways to strengthen cooperation in emergency response, disaster risk reduction and national capacities in mine action.

The meeting, attended by representatives of the EU Delegation to Syria, focused on expanding the partnership and benefiting from European expertise in disaster management, early warning systems and emergency response. The discussions also addressed efforts to build a more prepared and effective national emergency management system.

In a post on X, al-Saleh said the ministry’s priorities include debris removal, strengthening preparedness for natural disasters and advancing efforts toward Syria’s vision of a country without camps.

He also highlighted mine and war-remnant clearance as one of the biggest challenges to the return of residents and the restoration of normal life in affected areas.

On June 12, al-Saleh discussed with a delegation from the EU Delegation in Damascus challenges hindering the return of Syrian refugees, the spread of landmines, and the lack of infrastructure and basic services in affected areas.
