Kuwait, Sept. 8 (SANA)Kuwaiti Foreign MinisterSheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-SabahandPakistaniDeputy Prime Minister and Foreign MinisterMohammad Ishaq Dardiscussed the latest regional developments during a phone call on Monday.

TheKuwaitiForeign Ministry said on X that the two ministers reviewed efforts aimed at strengthening security and stability in the region, as well as bilateral cooperation and ways to further develop relations between the two countries.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office said the ministers discussed bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest and exchanged views on regional developments.

The two sides agreed to remain in close contact and meet on the sidelines of the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to the Pakistani Foreign Office.

Regional tensions and diplomatic efforts

The talks came amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran following renewed exchanges of strikes over the weekend.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned Monday that Tehran would target U.S. assets in the Middle East if Washington carried out fresh attacks.

Pakistan has been involved in mediation between the United States and Iran for months and has urged both sides to resolve their differences through dialogue and diplomacy.

The two countries reached an interim peace agreement in June, but fighting resumed weeks later in July after Washington accused Tehran of violating the agreement and firing at ships in the Strait of Hormuz, an accusation Iran rejected.

The two sides have since exchanged fire intermittently, with the conflict, which began in February, disrupting energy flows through the Gulf and adding to concerns over regional security.

Kuwait-Pakistan defense cooperation

The talks also come against the backdrop of expanding defense ties between Kuwait and Pakistan.

On August 27, the two countries signed a joint defense and military cooperation agreement during a visit by Kuwaiti Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah to Islamabad.

The agreement, signed with Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, calls for enhanced operational coordination, exchanges of expertise, and greater readiness and integration between the two countries’ armed forces.

The Kuwaiti Defense Ministry described the agreement as an important milestone in bilateral defense cooperation that would serve the two countries’ shared interests and contribute to regional security.

On Sunday, Dar also held separate phone calls with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss regional and international developments, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defense.
