Geneva, Sept. 8 (SANA)TheIndependent International Commissionof Inquiry on Syria welcomed accelerating reconstruction efforts inSyriaand progress in building accountability institutions, stressing the importance of accountability to the country’stransitional justiceprocess.In remarks before theUnited Nations Human Rights Council, the Commission said accountability is essential to the success of transitional justice in Syria.The Commission also welcomed the renewal of its mandate and thanked the Syrian government for enabling it to carry out its mission.Turning to developments in southern Syria, the Commission expressed deep concern over Israeli attacks, stressing that they violate Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.“We are deeply concerned about theIsraeli attacksonsouthern Syriaand stress that they violate Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the Commission said, adding: “This is unacceptable and must stop.”The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria was established by theUN Human Rights Councilin August 2011 to investigate violations of international human rights committed in Syria since March of that year.The Commission produced more than 30 reports between 2011 and 2025 documenting violations, including war crimes and crimes against humanity. In December 2024, it was granted access to Syria for the first time since beginning its work in 2011.
