I took a good look at the social media messages and photos that President Trump recently posted.
About a year ago, when I first met President Trump at the White House, I remember asking him to play the role of a peacemaker for peace on the Korean Peninsula, the only divided country in the world.
I also had serious discussions with President Trump at the G7 summit and the NATO summit to restore peace on the Korean Peninsula and resolve the nuclear issue.
President Trump's message this time feels like a big decision filled with careful consideration to create peace beyond hostility and confrontation on the Korean Peninsula.
The Republic of Korea, which spends 1.4 times the annual GDP of North Korea on defense and is rated as the 5th largest military power in the world, is rapidly increasing its defense spending to achieve 3.5% of its GDP as a percentage of its defense budget in accordance with the agreement between the ROK and the United States. I completely agree with President Trump's will that the Republic of Korea should take responsibility for the security of the Korean Peninsula itself while building sufficient capabilities to handle the defense of the Korean Peninsula on its own.
We, who believe that a peace system that does not require fighting is the most perfect security asset, sympathize with President Trump's will and efforts to create conditions for dialogue to establish a peace system on the Korean Peninsula, even by reducing the ROK-U.S. joint exercises and outdoor maneuver training, and pay respect to his decision.
We hope that President Trump's decision will lead to the establishment of a stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula through trust building and resumption of dialogue between the United States and the United States.
As I have already stated several times, I will do my best to play the role of a pacemaker who promotes and contributes to President Trump's peacemaker activities.
In addition, the government of the Republic of Korea has announced on various occasions that it will actively participate in the efforts of the international community, including the United States, to restore free passage in the Strait of Hormuz. To this end, our government will continue to closely communicate with the United States, as we have done so far, on various practical contribution measures within the scope that can be tolerated under the laws and basic policies of the Republic of Korea.
I look forward to reuniting with our respected President Trump in the United States soon.

트럼프 대통령께서 최근에 올리신 SNS 메시지와 사진들을 잘 보았습니다. 약 1년 전, 백악관에서 트럼프 대통령님과 처음 만났을 때 세계 유일 분단국인 한반도의 평화를 위해 페이스메이커를 자처하며 피스메이커 역할을 요청드렸던 기억이 떠오릅니다. 저는 G7 정상회의와 NATO 정상회의에서도 트럼프 대통령님과 한반도에서 평화를 회복하고 핵 문제를 해결하기 위한 진지한 논의를 하였습니다. 이번 트럼프 대통령님의 메시지는 한반도에서 적대와 대결을 넘어 평화를 만들기 위한 고심이 담긴 큰 결정으로 느껴집니다. 북측 연간 GDP의 1.4배에 이르는 국방비를 지출하며 세계 군사력 5위로 평가받는 대한민국은 한미 양국 합의에 따라 GDP 대비 국방비 3.5% 달성을 위해 국방비 지출을 급격히 늘려가는 등 한반도 방위를 스스로 감당하기에 충분한 역량을 갖춰가면서, 한반도 안보는 대한민국 스스로 책임져야 한다는 트럼프 대통령님의 의지에 전적으로 공감합니다. 싸울 필요가 없는 평화체제가 가장 완벽한 안보자산이라고 믿는 우리는 금번 한미연합연습과 야외기동훈련 축소를 통해서라도 한반도에서 평화체제 구축을 위한 대화여건을 조성하려는 트럼프 대통령님의 의지와 노력에 공감하며 그 결단에 경의를 표합니다. 트럼프 대통령님의 이 결단이 북미간 신뢰 구축과 대화 재개를 거쳐 한반도의 안정적 평화체제 구축으로 이어지기를 기대합니다. 이미 수차 밝힌 것처럼 저는 트럼프 대통령님의 이러한 피스메이커 활동을 촉진하고 기여하는 페이스메이커 역할에 최선을 다할 것입니다. 또한 대한민국 정부는 여러 계기에 호르무즈 해협에서의 자유로운 통항 회복을 위한 미국을 포함한 국제사회의 노력에 적극 동참할 것을 밝힌 바 있습니다. 우리 정부는 이를 위해 대한민국 법령과 기본정책상 감내할 수 있는 범위내에서 여러 실질적 기여 방안에 대해 지금까지 해왔던 것처럼 미측과 계속 긴밀하게 소통해 나갈 것입니다. 머지않아 미국에서의 존경하는 트럼프 대통령님과의 재회를 기대합니다.
