Joined a discussion on the development of the historic Fort Colombo as an attractive tourist destination this afternoon (19) at the President's Office. Under the World Bank loan and assistance, the Western Provincial Council, the Urban Development Authority and the Colombo Municipal Council will jointly implement this project to develop the historic Fort area of Colombo as an international level tourist destination and this project is expected to make a great contribution to the country's economy by connecting with the tourist ships coming to the port of Colombo. The preliminary studies related to the implementation of the project were discussed here, and I gave instructions to prepare an overall plan related to the project. This afternoon (19) I attended the discussion on developing the historic fort area of Colombo as an attractive tourist destination at the President's office. Under the loan and financial support of the World Bank, through this project jointly implemented by the Western Provincial Council, the Urban Development Authority and the Colombo Municipal Council, the historic Fort area of Colombo will be developed into an international-class tourist destination. I discussed here about the initial phase study related to the implementation of this project, and I also instructed to prepare the complete action plan. Participated in a discussion at the Presidential Secretariat this afternoon (19) on developing Colombo's historic Fort area as an attractive tourist destination. The project, being implemented jointly by the Western Provincial Council, the Urban Development Authority and the Colombo Municipal Council with funding and assistance from the World Bank, aims to transform the historic Fort area into an internationally recognized tourist destination. The project is also expected to make a significant contribution to the national economy by establishing links with cruise ships arriving at the Port of Colombo. The discussion focused on the preliminary studies being undertaken for the implementation of the project. Also instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive overall plan for the project.
