ITLA y Spacex avanzan en iniciativas para ampliar conectividad y formación en IA en RD
Santo Domingo.- In a significant step towards strengthening technological education, access to high-quality Internet and generating new training opportunities for Dominicans, the Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA) continues to develop a work agenda with SpaceX executives to explore initiatives aimed at expanding connectivity and strengthening technological training in the Dominican Republic.
As part of this collaboration process, the rector of ITLA, Jimmy Rosario Bernard, has led a series of high-level meetings together with Katerina Álvarez, manager of Strategic Connectivity at Starlink, in which representatives of xAI have also been integrated, strengthening the dialogue on education, innovation and digital transformation.
Wilfredo Fernández, director for the Americas of Global Government Affairs at xAI, and Gabriela Castillo Madrid, senior manager for the Americas at xAI, also participated in the most recent conference, expanding the conversation towards training initiatives in artificial intelligence supported by new generation technologies.
The meetings have made it possible to continue the conversations started between both institutions to identify opportunities for collaboration in terms of connectivity, technological education and artificial intelligence, taking into account the infrastructure challenges that still persist in different areas of the country and the need to expand access to tools that respond to the new demands of the labor market.
Among the initiatives evaluated is the possibility of developing massive training programs in artificial intelligence, using Grok, from xAI, as a pedagogical support tool in classrooms and continuing education programs. This line of work seeks to contribute to the development of skills in artificial intelligence and bring this technology closer to students, teachers and participants in training programs.
Likewise, strengthening connectivity in rural communities through Starlink was explored, as an infrastructure that could contribute to overcoming Internet access limitations that certain communities still face and facilitate technological training opportunities to extend to more territories.
“Through the democratization of knowledge, we transform technology into an accessible bridge for Dominican youth to lead the future,” said the rector of ITLA, Jimmy Rosario Bernard.
Within the framework of this institutional approach, SpaceX representatives learned first-hand about ITLA's trajectory, its educational model, programs aimed at technological inclusion and its high levels of employability, which exceed 90%. Likewise, the advances of an academic offer aligned with the needs of the global market in areas such as Cybersecurity, Mechatronics, Artificial Intelligence and Bioinformatics were presented.
The vice-rector for Extension and Social Development, Juan Matos; the Academic vice-rector, Pedro Pablo Castro; academic advisor Cabrera Bentz; the Planning Director, María Isabel Mercedes; the Director of Technology, Johan Prevot, and Dean Winckler Paula, who shared institutional advances in training programs, social outreach, scholarships and initiatives aimed at expanding access to technological education.
This approach arises from a fundamental question: How to connect more people with the careers, tools and opportunities of the future? Based on this approach, ITLA, SpaceX and xAI continue to explore possible lines of collaboration focused on strengthening connectivity, democratizing access to technological knowledge and expanding training opportunities in artificial intelligence.
The incorporation of artificial intelligence into educational processes, along with the development of connectivity solutions for communities with limited access to the Internet, represents an opportunity to move towards a more inclusive educational ecosystem, connected and prepared for the transformations of the new digital economy.
With this work agenda, ITLA reaffirms its commitment to training Dominican talent, strengthening the country's digital transformation and establishing strategic alliances with technological actors of global reach, with the purpose of generating greater opportunities for learning, innovation and social development.

Los encuentros han permitido dar continuidad a las conversaciones iniciadas entre ambas instituciones paraidentificar oportunidades de colaboraciónen materia de conectividad, educación tecnológica e inteligencia artificial, tomando en cuenta los retos de infraestructura que aún persisten en distintas zonas del país y la necesidad de ampliar el acceso a herramientas que respondan a las nuevas demandas del mercado laboral. Entre las iniciativas evaluadas se encuentra la posibilidad de desarrollarprogramas de formación masivaen inteligencia artificial, utilizandoGrok, de xAI, como herramienta de apoyo pedagógico en aulas y programas de educación continua. Esta línea de trabajo busca contribuir al desarrollo decompetencias en inteligencia artificialy acercar esta tecnología a estudiantes, docentes y participantes de programas de formación. De igual manera, se exploró el fortalecimiento de la conectividad en comunidades rurales medianteStarlink,como una infraestructura que podría contribuir a superar las limitaciones de acceso a Internet que todavía enfrentan determinadas comunidades y facilitar que lasoportunidades de formación tecnológicapuedan extenderse a más territorios. “A través de la democratización del conocimiento, transformamos la tecnología en un puente accesible para que la juventud dominicana lidere el futuro”,expresó el rector del ITLA, Jimmy Rosario Bernard. En el marco de este acercamiento institucional, los representantes de SpaceX conocieron de primera mano la trayectoria del ITLA, su modelo educativo, los programas orientados a lainclusión tecnológicay sus altos niveles de empleabilidad, que superan el90 %.Asimismo, se presentaron los avances de una oferta académica alineada con lasnecesidades del mercado globalen áreas como Ciberseguridad, Mecatrónica, Inteligencia Artificial y Bioinformática.
