Ministerio de Deportes inicia reconstrucción del Complejo Deportivo de San Pedro de Macorís
San Pedro de Macorís.– The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, led the first step to begin the reconstruction work of the San Pedro de Macorís Sports Complex, with an investment of RD 274,346,217.05.
The official emphasized that the work that will be carried out in these facilities “is part of the extensive project of repair, construction and reconstruction of facilities that, at the national level, is being developed by the government of President Luis Abinader.”
Cruz highlighted the importance of the investment in the renovation of the facilities of the historic complex, from which, he said, some of the greatest athletes in the area have emerged.
“President Abinader, from the Government, feels extremely honored to be able to make this very important investment in the historic San Pedro de Macorís Sports Complex, for decades the cradle of great athletes, legends that this great municipality has given birth to throughout its history,” said Cruz.
The Minister of Sports noted that "for me it is extremely emotional and very joyful, since I have heard the demands of this province and today we are responding with the start of works that will impact hundreds of athletes. Today we are here to raise the dignity of a people that gave 18 medals in the Central American and Caribbean Games."
Meanwhile, the senator for the province of San Pedro de Macorís, Aracelis Villanueva, thanked this initiative.
"Thank you to Minister Kelvin Cruz for bringing this great investment to our province of San Pedro de Macorís. Today, this province fulfills its dream that these facilities begin a reconstruction that will strengthen our young athletes," he said.
Among the authorities present at the event were also the provincial governor, Yovanis Baltazar; the general director of Customs, Nelson Arroyo; the deputies Luis Gómez and Carolina Paula; the president of the Provincial Sports Union, Reymundo Gantier, as well as sports leaders of the province.
The projects that will be intervened are the Weight Pavilion, the Gymnastics Pavilion, the baseball complex, the open fields, the youth baseball stadium, the softball stadium and the Archery Pavilion.
The Olympic Village and the perimeter fence will also be repaired, while work will be done on the Olympic wrestling and karate pavilions, as well as on the reconstruction of the athletics track.

Hoy estamos aquí para levantar la dignidad de un pueblo que dio 18 medallas en los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe.”. En tanto, la senadora por la provincia de San Pedro de Macorís,Aracelis Villanueva,agradeció esta iniciativa. “Gracias al ministro Kelvin Cruz por traer esta gran inversión a nuestra provincia de San Pedro de Macorís. Hoy, esta provincia cumple su sueño de que estas instalaciones inicien una reconstrucción que va a fortalecer a nuestros jóvenes atletas”,manifestó. Entre las autoridades presentes en el acto estuvieron, además, la gobernadora provincial,Yovanis Baltazar; el director general de Aduanas,Nelson Arroyo; los diputadosLuis Gómez y Carolina Paula;el presidente de la Unión Deportiva Provincial,Reymundo Gantier,así como líderes deportivos de la provincia. Los proyectos que serán intervenidos son el Pabellón de Pesas, el Pabellón de Gimnasia, el complejo de béisbol, las canchas abiertas, el estadio de béisbol juvenil, el estadio de softbol y el Pabellón de Tiro con Arco. También serán reparadas laVilla Olímpicay la verja perimetral, mientras que se trabajará en los pabellones de lucha olímpica y karate, así como en la reconstrucción de la pista de atletismo.
