$300 million contract awarded to rehabilitate Damascus–Deir Ezzor roads
Damascus, Aug. 19 (SANA)The General Establishment forRoad Transporthas awarded the rehabilitation and maintenance of the Damascus–Palmyra and Palmyra–Deir Ezzor roads, along with the construction of parallel routes, to Saudi company al-Rawaf and Syrian company al-Kawati after selecting the best technical and financial bid.
Muath Najjar, Director General of the General Establishment for Road Transport at the Ministry of Transport, said in an exclusive interview with SANA on Wednesday, that the contract is valued at around$300 million, with an implementation period of780 days. Implementation will begin after the contract is signed by the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic for Cabinet Affairs.
The projects include rehabilitating the Damascus–Palmyra road and constructing a second route between Palmyra and Damascus, as well as rehabilitating the Palmyra–Deir Ezzor road and constructing a second route between Deir Ezzor and Palmyra.
Najjar said the projects will be implemented according to technical specifications suited to the requirements of the coming phase, enhancing the roads’ capacity to accommodate traffic, improving road safety and providing safer routes for citizens and transport operators.
He described the signing of the contract as an important step toward connecting Syria’s eastern region with other parts of the country and the national infrastructure network, noting that rehabilitating the central road network across the provinces is a priority for the establishment.
