I had a very fruitful telephone conversation with the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio.
I reiterated my request for the tariffs that affect Colombian products to be temporarily suspended. A procedure must be completed to achieve this and there is every willingness on the part of the United States Government to advance that goal.
I have instructed the Minister of Commerce, Mauricio Gómez, to travel to Washington today and personally take charge of this issue.
I thanked Secretary Rubio for all the support that the United States has provided to Colombia in the face of the tragedy: economic aid, humanitarian assistance, and teams of rescuers.
I also reaffirmed our determination to strengthen the historic and transcendental alliance between Colombia and the United States.
Today, more than ever, Colombia and the United States must be united.

Tuve una muy fructífera conversación telefónica con el secretario de Estado de los Estados Unidos, Marco Rubio. Le reiteré mi solicitud para que sean suspendidos temporalmente los aranceles que afectan a los productos colombianos. Hay que surtir un trámite para lograrlo y existe toda la disposición por parte del Gobierno de los Estados Unidos para avanzar en ese propósito. He dado instrucciones al ministro de Comercio, Mauricio Gómez, para que viaje hoy mismo a Washington y se ponga personalmente al frente de este tema. Le agradecí al secretario Rubio todo el apoyo que Estados Unidos le ha brindado a Colombia frente a la tragedia: ayuda económica, asistencia humanitaria y equipos de rescatistas. También le ratifiqué nuestra determinación de fortalecer la histórica y trascendental alianza entre Colombia y los Estados Unidos.
